I occasionally reflect on how a geological training marked me. What habits or traits do I have now that I wouldn’t if I’d studied a different subject?
To start with the obvious, I have a beard. It grew when I was an undergraduate, amongst some of the great mountains of the world.
When you tie your shoelaces, do kneel on the ground? I don’t, I stand like a flamingo. It’s all Ireland’s fault.
Are you making the best use of your teeth? Do you hold things in it? Why not? It’s useful and makes you look like a commando.
You might be a geologist when:
you try to save all the rocks in your garden.
you refer to a small excavator as “cute”
your jacket pockets always hang below your hips from all the rocks you’ve collected, and
earplugs on a string become a fashion accessory

Looks fascinating! Thanks.
Loved the Swedish chondrite story and thought, if the reported Late Cambrian fauna in the Neugrund crater center are re-worked – by the impact? This could return Neugrund and the Swedish chondrites and chromite to being the smoking gun of the first bolide impact at the beginning of the Dapingian – and keep its links to the trail of US crates of similar age which are in line up with the Neugrund – namely Ames crater Oklahoma, Decorah Crater in Iowa, Rock Elm crater in Wisconsin and the Slate Island Crater in Lake Superior?
Regards
