Maybe because it is mid-summer in the Northern Hemisphere and all of my fellow geopathologists are at the beach?<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of beaches, I was scoping out the Dorset coast of England looking for a famous fossil forest locality when I spotted this beautiful example of coastal geomorphology processes. Some sort of break in the resistant coastline has allowed waves to excavate this lovely inlet called Lulworth Cove, which now sports a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiley.com\/college\/strahler\/0471480533\/animations\/ch19_animations\/animation2.html\">textbook example<\/a> of wave refraction and the dispersal of wave energy that allows a beach to develop. <a href='http:\/\/posterous.com\/getfile\/files.posterous.com\/temp-2010-07-21\/yhpIJvfpDxDlBvgjspoDljdjDDFptIEwxecCBDajDauaruipfzvwzepuEyHG\/dorset_coast.jpg.scaled1000.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/posterous.com\/getfile\/files.posterous.com\/temp-2010-07-21\/yhpIJvfpDxDlBvgjspoDljdjDDFptIEwxecCBDajDauaruipfzvwzepuEyHG\/dorset_coast.jpg.scaled500.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a> Oh and that fossil forest? It&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soton.ac.uk\/~imw\/Fossil-Forest.htm\">Jurassic Purbeck Fossil Forest<\/a> and it&#8217;s in the center of the frame.<\/p>\n<p>Where are we?
