Congratulations <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/jefferson\/congratulations-to-laura-sugano-ms-graduate-spring-2018\/\">Laura<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/jefferson\/congratulations-to-garrett-blauch-ms-graduate-summer-2018\/\">Garrett<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/jefferson\/congratulations-catherine-ruhm-ms-fall-2018\/\">Catherine<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Three<\/strong> conferences attended: UCOWR, GSA, AGU<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.98<\/strong> years as mother of an irascible \u201cWhy?\u201d asker<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three<\/strong> years as Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Geology. I might finally know what I\u2019m doing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Four<\/strong> years of partnering with Cleveland Metroparks on the Watershed Stewardship Center Green Infrastructure project<\/p>\n<p><strong>Four<\/strong> years I\u2019ve been the Newsletter Editor\/Webmaster for <a href=\"https:\/\/community.geosociety.org\/qggdivision\/home\">Quaternary Geology and Geomorphology Division at the Geological Society of America<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Five<\/strong> states in which I gave invited seminars (NV, OR, OH, NY, WI) this year<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.5<\/strong> years I\u2019ve been at Kent State University\u2026 the longest I\u2019ve been in any one place since I graduated from high school<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.4<\/strong> ha of abandoned mine land within Cuyahoga Valley National Park which we are restoring and studying, in partnership with park scientists and volunteers<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nine<\/strong> media interviews, including one today on the effects of the government shutdown rippling outward to scientists in academia and the private sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11<\/strong> conference posters or presentations given by my research group<\/p>\n<p><strong>11.93<\/strong> years as a mother to a talented and creative free-spirit<\/p>\n<p><strong>12 <\/strong>students who have earned graduate degrees with me as their advisor, since I started teaching 12 years ago<\/p>\n<p><strong>100%<\/strong> graduation rate of the MS students who took my Writing in Earth Sciences course in the spring<\/p>\n<p><strong>100s<\/strong> of water samples from urban headwater streams for which we have nitrate and chloride data<\/p>\n<p><strong>1000s<\/strong> of water samples from rivers, lakes, and precipitation for which we have stable isotope data<\/p>\n<p><strong>1883<\/strong> tweets about science and society, garnering almost 2.5 million impressions thanks to my 9134 followers<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infinite<\/strong> behind-the-scenes support from my partner and kids<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What am I proudest of?<\/strong><\/em> My kids, both biological and academic. And the unquantifiable (but hopefully meaningful) work I\u2019m doing to make science a more inclusive profession.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What\u2019s in the works for 2019?<\/strong><\/em> Lots of the things listed above have momentum and will be continuing in 2019, but there are also new things in the works. A proposal is pending, papers are in preparation, and more students are on course to graduate, etc. I\u2019ll also be on sabbatical for summer and fall 2019, cooking up some new science with colleagues at Colorado State University and enjoying some trails in the Colorado Rockies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What did I do in the past year?
