And how much newer the phrase &#8220;green infrastructure&#8221; is?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Growing up&#8221; as a geomorphologist, I learned about stream restoration much more quickly than I did about stormwater management, but the Google Ngrams show pretty clearly that we&#8217;ve been talking and writing about stormwater for longer and a lot more than we have about stream restoration.<\/p>\n<p><iframe name=\"ngram_chart\" src=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/ngrams\/interactive_chart?content=stream+restoration%2C+stormwater+management&#038;year_start=1965&#038;year_end=2008&#038;corpus=15&#038;smoothing=2&#038;share=&#038;direct_url=t1%3B%2Cstream%20restoration%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cstormwater%20management%3B%2Cc0\" width=900 height=500 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=no><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is borne out by looking at word usage just within the New York Times. Stream restoration never gets off the horizontal axis, and truthfully neither does &#8220;stormwater&#8221; management, <a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.nytlabs.com\/?keyword=%22stream%20restoration%22.stormwater.%22storm%20water%22.%22storm%20water%20management%22\">but as two words &#8220;storm water&#8221; it&#8217;s reached levels of 0.03% of articles since 2000.<\/a> It&#8217;s not much, but at least it&#8217;s there at all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can you see the Clean Water Act in there?
