Following the example <a href=\"http:\/\/highway8a.blogspot.com\/2010\/12\/my-2010-year-of-traveling-meme.html\">Silver Fox<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/geotripper.blogspot.com\/2010\/12\/2010-year-of-traveling-dangerously.html\">Garry Hayes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/mountainbeltway\/2010\/12\/21\/travels-of-2010\/\">Callan Bentley<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/magmacumlaude\/2010\/12\/22\/travels-near-and-far-2010\/\">Jess Ball<\/a>, here&#8217;s a summary of my travels this year. If nothing else, it&#8217;s a good chance to (re)post pretty photos.<\/p>\n<p>In <b>January<\/b>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2010\/01\/where-ive-been\/\">trip to the US<\/a> saw me spending a few days in chilly New York City before heading to North Carolina for the ScienceOnline 2009 conference, and a day trip into the foothills of the Appalachians.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/NewYork2.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">New York from the Empire State Building. Photo: Chris Rowan, 2010<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In February, my travels were limited and distinctly ungeological in nature, although I did end up in the birthplace of the world-famous <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pork_pie#Melton_Mowbray_pork_pie\">Melton Mowbray pork pie<\/a> &#8211; with predictable (if unphotographed) results.<\/p>\n<p><b>March<\/b> saw me hunting <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2010\/03\/more-folds-a-plunging\/\">plunging folds and baby geology students<\/a> from the cliffs south of St Andrews.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/P3210015s.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Plunging Paleozoic Folds near St Andrews, Scotland. Photo: Chris Rowan, 2010.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In <b>April<\/b>, I was fortunate not to be travelling to far during the rather disruptive eruption of the Icelandic volcano <a href=\"http:\/\/bigthink.com\/search?q=Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull&#038;x=0&#038;y=0\">Eyjafjallajoekull<\/a>, although I did hike up Arthur&#8217;s Seat one evening to take some pictures of the <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2010\/04\/a-volcanic-sunset-over-edinburgh\/\">ash-enhanced sunset<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/P4160124s.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A volcanic sunset from Arthur&#039;s Seat, Edinburgh. Photo: Chris Rowan, 2010.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I had barely settled in before <b>December<\/b>, and the AGU Fall conference, came around, and I was off to San Francisco!<\/p>\n<p>All in all, it&#8217;s been a pretty busy year for this blogger. Perhaps it&#8217;s a good thing for my wallet, my body clock, and my carbon footprint that &#8211; for the moment at least &#8211; next year is looking a bit more sedate. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s travel meme time!
