{"id":3558,"date":"2009-11-26T08:15:12","date_gmt":"2009-11-26T08:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2009\/11\/thanks-for-giving-kids-the-earth-science\/"},"modified":"2009-11-26T08:15:12","modified_gmt":"2009-11-26T08:15:12","slug":"thanks-for-giving-kids-the-earth-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2009\/11\/thanks-for-giving-kids-the-earth-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Thanks for giving kids the Earth (Science)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"float: left; padding: 5px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/anneicon.jpg\" width=\"49\" height=\"50\" alt=\"A post by Anne Jefferson\"\/><\/span>In October, we happily took part in the <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonoushttps:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2009\/10\/geobloggers-need-your-help-to-give-kids-the-earth-science\/\">DonorsChoose Social Media Challenge<\/a>, teaming up with <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/stressrelated\">All of My Faults are Stress-Related<\/a> and Eruptions to create a geoblog generosity trifecta. We got amazing results, with geoblogs readers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donorschoose.org\/donors\/viewChallenge.html?id=24187&#038;category=111\">giving $8660 to our challenge<\/a>.<br \/>\nPart of that money was contributed by a generous match from HP, and they have distributed giving codes to all challenge donors. <strong>If you gave to a DonorsChoose challenge in October, check your email for a link to put that HP match into action. All you have to do is follow the link, select the project(s) of your choice, and spend HP&#8217;s money. <\/strong><br \/>\nChris, Kim, and I also promised you that we would <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2009\/11\/to-our-amazing-readers-we-are-humbled-post-requests-are-now-open\/\">write 5 posts of you choice<\/a>, but so far we&#8217;ve only gotten suggestions from three people. <a href=\"https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2009\/11\/to-our-amazing-readers-we-are-humbled-post-requests-are-now-open\/\">Suggest away<\/a> and give us some inspiration to post here.<br \/>\nFinally, I wanted to share with you the most wonderful thanks I&#8217;ve gotten for contributing to the challenge. Donors who give $100 to a single project, or contribute the amount needed to fully fund the project, get a packet of thank you letters from the students. I helped complete a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donorschoose.org\/donors\/proposal.html?id=325639&#038;challengeid=24200\">project<\/a> that gave copies of Seymour Simon&#8217;s book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mountains-Seymour-Simon\/dp\/0688154778\">Mountains<\/a> to a classroom in Utah.
