Now that I&#8217;m back in the UK, it&#8217;s a bit less of a financial drain to get to the US than it was from South Africa, but it&#8217;s still not cheap, exactly &#8211; and about a decade of not having very much money has made me a little bit hard on myself when it comes to allowing unnecessary expenses*.<br \/>\nBut yesterday, I found myself in a &#8216;what the hell&#8217; mood. I&#8217;m in a position where I <em>can<\/em> afford it (just about), and meeting fellow bloggers is <a href=https:\/\/all-geo.org\/highlyallochthonous\/2007\/08\/a-picture-is-worth-a-thousand-drunken-words\/>always fun<\/a>. So I bit the bullet, and booked my flights and hotel room for North Carolina.
