No, there is not always a chance. Especially when people start with a mistaken premise and then make stuff up.

well, your just gunna look like a huge idiot if this does happen.
there is always a chance.
and YOU could be the reason that millions of people die.
is that something you really want to live with?

Well, your four links can't really be bundled together into a 'theory': they are only related in the sense that they involve methane having some sort of significant geological impact, and none of them really have any bearing on what's going on in the Gulf of Mexico. In most cases, there is the usual caveat that when geologists use 'rapid' they are generally still talking about at least a few thousand years. The only exception is the Cretaceous impact one - which I haven't heard before - but I hope I don't have to point out that one half-metre borehole is a little different from a 6 mile-across asteroid....

So, do you think all methane explosion theories are bull or just this one? What about all the past theories of mass extinctions that you can read about:

http://pangea.stanford.edu/research/Oceans/GES205/methaneGeology.pdf (George Ryshkin's paper)

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/astronomy/dinosaurs_fry_991118.html

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10935632

Or, the lake that exploded in Cameroon as mentioned in this cheesy history channel video: http://vimeo.com/8269021

Are you saying that the entire theory is definitely false or only in the specific context of the BP oil spill?
