Christmas gifts for geologists: the emergency option

It might seem pathetic, but if you’re really stuck and running out of time, remember that geologists like socks. Just as long as they’re long and woolly.

If you spend lots of time hiking around on rough terrain, often in bad weather, something that will keep your feet warm and blister free is never going to go unappreciated.

Oh hell yeah. I’m a particular fan of Bridgedale socks with the arch support. £10 pairs of socks are good because they’re superior but we can never quite justify dropping a cool tenner on an item that’s going to get muddy, sweaty and really smelly.

Oh yeah, Bridgedale are fantastic. Their Summit range are amazing for cold weather. I’ve got several pairs of those and a lot of their summer ones, too.

Ah, and what sort of underwear do geologists like?

Barts Thermal Underwear. Fantastic stuff, feels better than North Face and a good bit cheaper.
